The "Karate at Crestwood" Karate Club is a member of the Ohtsuka Amateur Karate Foundation. We had previously been located at the Jewish Community Centre since January 23, 1984, which makes us the longest continuously running AKF club. At the heart of our instruction is the "Introduction to Karate" Program, offered at all of the clubs and established as the standard for both classic and innovative martial art instruction. The program features outstanding workouts which are both exciting and beneficial in a sporting, recreational environment, and requiring no previous martial arts knowledge. The activity is unique in combining an absorbing art, an exciting recreational activity, and practical, down-to-earth self-defense. In addition to this, some grappling, take-downs, knife techniques, board breaking, as well as weapons techniques are taught by various Black Belt instructors. Training is available in higher black belt kata at certain times during or right after regular classes. For higher levels, Sensei Nelson will also teach the Katas – Naihanchin, Seishan, Chinto, Wansu, and Gensho Shodan. Karate at Crestwood is very unique as both individuals and families participate and train together.
