| The Annual Edmonton Spring Tournament, 2010 |
|
Thank you everyone for a great tournament. It was a pleasure to have the privilege to attend and mix with such wonderful company. The time and effort spent organizing this event was very much appreciated. Let me begin thanking Jeff for staying on top of this and maintaining a keen eye for detail. The Calgary breaking crew who did a world caliber demonstration at the highest order. Many thanks to all the black belts who showed up and added that upper level of wisdom and grace that sat over the event. Thanks to those from Calgary for coming up, as always to support the event, much appreciated. Finally, thanks again to the Casino funds for its contributions to this event and Rick and Trudy for all their supporting and maintaining it. Many more thanks to all the parents and participants for making this such a wonderful success.

It was a day to remember for our organization. The turnout was overwhelming and the enthusiasm really carried us through the day. The opening group display of Kushanku really put the energy on the floor and looked so nice. Rhys demonstration of the bo kata was done at a professional level we rarely get to see. Trudy's self defense brought the rawness of the street right onto the floor and caught everyone's attention. The Calgary " Wrecking Team ", did exactly that, wrecked things at a high caliber level rarely seen. Coining that expression, when something has to wrecked, and we mean wrecked, call us. Beautiful breaking, professional done, with flare and great humor.

The tournament day allowed us to present more elements of the Enigma program and how it works. The Enigma program stands for, Intelligent games for young Martial Artists. It augments our regular curriculum of martial art instruction with inventive games that speak to the teachings of young karate-ka. Each game centers on a form of strategy that involves problem solving through a series of intellectual and physical skills.
|
| |
| The obstacle course and the egg game, The Emperors scrambled Eggs are from the Enigma game cycle. The Enigma program will eventually have over two hundred games. Everything from the very simple to the very complex, depending on the youth age level. The games are very important for our youth programs and build towards developing very well rounded and high quality karate-ka. Many of our senior karate-ka are products of the Enigma system even though it was not addressed as that through their time. The Enigma system is also very good for our senior black belts. It allows a refreshing look at martial art instruction and pleasant break from regular instruction. |
| |
| In conclusion, it was a real pleasure and honor to have the opportunity to meet so many of the younger and upcoming black belts. Even though it was often just a few minutes , I really appreciated the time I could spend with them. Thank you so much for that. It was also so nice to meet up with many of our senior black belts. Everyone looking so good and adding that touch of class to our tournament day.. |

May 8 approaches and what an exciting time it will be. Perhaps our largest black belt grading ever and a good look at a strong, high quality youth movement coming through our organization. I cannot wait to get back up to Edmonton for this grading and I hope everyone else shares my enthusiasm for this event. Positive, upbeat, high energy, and most important, a gathering of kindred spirits, strong hearts, and noble individuals.

| |
| Thank you everyone for all your kind words and special attention you gave to me at the tournament and all of our events this past year. It is an honor to contribute what I can to these events and ever humbling to attend them. |
